Drivers, Start Your Engines!!

This was our last Pinewood Derby! Can that really be?? It seems crazy to me. Braydon did a great job with his car this year. He's so easy going about some things. He didn't want something elaborate with his car, just simple. So Justin helped him cut it out and then Bradyon spent about 45 minutes sanding the car down. He did a great job getting it smooth. He didn't want something fancy for the car so we stuck with black. Just black. (Mom didn't complain!) We put a few layers of paint on it and then Braydon and Dad spent lots of time in the garage working on getting the wheels prepped for the race.

Here's Braydon with his 'Night Rider' car. He didn't do too bad. There was another car there that was pretty well done. They had hollowed out the bottom of the car and it whizzed right down the track. So Braydon ended up taking 2nd place which was just fine for him! (I think deep down he knew he could have taken 1st if that other kid hadn't had such a fast car. He's a great sport about things though).
Braydon and Austin just after getting the car weighed in!
This was the first time this ward has used a professional track. It's so slick to do the Pinewood this way. It takes very little time to race the cars and you don't have dad's- I mean boys getting upset about who actually came in 1st!! They even had some great sound effects for the race as well. The scoutmaster had boxes of popcorn and also hotdogs for everyone. It was just like being down at the race track!!!
After each car was raced and the winners were decided, each boy got to race their cars down with the loop-the-loop attachment! Now that was fun to watch. The best was seeing those cars that were too big to go around the loop and see them crash! All the boys got a thrill from that!
It might be weird not going to Pinewood Derby's anymore. Justin might just have to get a few adults together each year and make sure they have an adult Derby.
